Creating and editing simplified tables

Creating and editing simplified tables

After a Simplified model is first created, it contains no tables.

Creating a table

User can create a first new empty Table by providing its Name and Code.

image-20240802-073229.png

Created table is opened (with no content) and indicated in the list of tables in the left hand side navigation pane.

Setting up data type definition on Rows/Columns

In the first step user shall decide if the information on the requested data type shall be indicated On rows or On columns of the created table (i.e. if the entire row or column will require values of a selected data type: Monetary, Text, Date, etc.

image-20240802-073605.png

Depending on the set up for placement of Data type, it can be edited on Columns:

image-20240802-074835.png

or on Rows:

Please note that this setting of the placement of data type constraints can be changed at any point of time.

Fixed and Dynamic structure of headers

User indicates if a created Table has a Fixed or Dynamic structure of Rows and Columns.

image-20240802-073815.png

Fixed means that the headers of Rows or Columns are known in advance, i.e. set up in the underlying information requirements (so-called closed tables). Dynamic structure enables reporters providing unlimited number of rows or columns (so-called open tables). Typical table whose Columns and Rows are fixes is a balance sheet or other containing aggregated data, while more granular data are typically collected by tables whose rows have dynamic content.

After setting both Rows and Columns as Fixed, the table is created containing one column and one row.

Editing header label and code

To change the title of a header, click on the highlighted text Add name

and start typing:

Codes of Fixed Rows and Columns are set up automatically upon creation of a header, starting with R0100 for Rows, C0100 for Columns and S0100 for Sheets and increasing by 10.

They can be automatically recalculated by clicking on Reset all ordinate codes in the navigation bar above the table structure definition pane:

image-20240802-094856.png

There are two options for recalculation:

image-20240802-094953.png

Both start by setting the most left Column to C0100 and top Row to R0100 and increase by 10 moving from header to header (to the right for Columns, and down for Rows). Depth first method increases codes first for child nodes and then for siblings while Breadth first starts will sibling headers first.

Adding and rearranging structure of Fixed Rows/Columns

To add a Column header next to the exiting one, use the + button on the right:

image-20240802-075037.png

To add a Column header before the exiting one, use the + button on the left:

image-20240802-075320.png

To add a parent Column header, click on the Code of a header and select + button in the context menu:

image-20240805-065810.png

To add a Row header below the exiting one, use the + button on the bottom:

image-20240802-075416.png

Note that in the following situation the sibling of R0120 Current will be created:

image-20240802-075429.png

while in the below case a sibling of R0100 Assets will be created:

image-20240802-075450.png

To add a Row header above the existing one, use the + button on the top:

image-20240802-075505.png

To add a child Row header use the + button on the right:

image-20240802-075522.png

To add a parent Row header, click on the Code of a header and select the indentation icon in the context menu:

image-20240805-065953.png

Note that rows indentation can be used to nest a Row header under its upper sibling or to move it up to the level of its parent:

image-20240805-070459.png

Headers of Rows and Columns can be rearranged with drag and drop.

After dragging a Row Header, it can be dropped above another Row (point to the arrow up), below another Row (point to the arrow down) as a child of another Row (point to the middle arrow).

image-20240802-075825.png

Similarly for Columns, it is possible to drag a drop a header next to another one (as a sibling on the left or right hand side or as a child).

Grouping headers

Fixed Columns or Rows can be marked as grouping by clicking on their code and deselecting them as Reportable:

image-20240805-070740.png

Not reportable cells

Cells can be grayed-out/cross-crossed by clicking on their content and deselecting Reportable:

Dynamic structure Rows or Columns

Typical open table has unlimited number of rows.

image-20240805-073748.png

To add more Dynamic structure Rows (or Columns) click on the + icon.

image-20240805-074034.png

Labels of a Dynamic structure Row and Column can be change by placing the cursor on its title and editing the text:

image-20240805-074757.png

Note that a table can have Dynamic structure on Rows or Columns but not on both (in case it is on Rows, Columns can only be Fixed):

image-20240805-075227.png

Keys to each row are constrained by data type where user can select from the list of predefined basic types:

image-20240805-073837.png

or select one of the existing/create a new drop-down list with available options:

Creating and editing lists

Content of Rows/Columns in table can be constrained to a set of enumerated items, which in reporting tools is typically visualized as a drop-down.

These lists can be set up for Dynamic structures

of Fixed Rows or Columns:

image-20240805-075255.png

Creating of a new list requires providing its name and enumerating its items (to save an entry press Enter):

image-20240805-075455.png

and when completed, clicking on Create:
